06/20/2019Product Covert TankBy Alex WagnerFrom Akron, OHAbout Me Motiv Staff, Turbo Staff - Perfect Fit Pro ShopMotiv Covert Tank
I drilled my Covert Tank pin under the ring finger to hopefully create early roll but to hopefully gain more down lane motion and continuation than urethane provides. The ball exceeded my expectations and has become a staple in my arsenal. I can play straighter longer on short or light oil conditions. This ball is what every company is trying and failing to create with their reactive urethane mixtures. Best of all, I can use this ball without destroying the lanes in league like urethane would.

This is the smoothest rolling ball I have thrown in a long time. It does exactly what Motiv says. Very smooth through the front part of the lane with a strong but controllable back end reaction. I got it for Father's Day and had it drilled today. Threw on our house shot, medium volume, 41 feet. Left lane had six games on it, right lane was still fresh. I played four and two deeper on the left than on the right. Great ball, especially if you're getting old like me and have lost some of your ball speed. But, I think a young, high-rev player will love this ball too!!! All I throw is Motiv and this is a great addition to a great line of equipment!!!

06/16/2019Product Covert TankBy Sean MackieFrom Taylor, MIAbout Me Motiv StafferMotiv Covert Tank Review
The Covert Tank is a unique piece with tons of versatility in creating different motions. It has a bigger core mixed with the new microcell polymer cover, giving it almost a Urethane shape down lane, but reads the fronts like resin. I drilled mine with a stronger layout using a 4" pin which actually gave me a bigger flare than anticipated. But it lets me move in and control the lanes when the lanes start getting jumpy. It’s also a good piece for the flatter patterns when I want something with a real controlled motion. Definitely a game changer in ball Motion and not like any other piece in our line up.

Review:
Motiv has created a new cover stock that fits between Traditional Urethane and Reactive Urethane. The cover is called Frixion Microcell Polymer. The intent was to create a ball that had the control characteristics of Urethane but enhanced performance to give it ability to be used by a greater range of bowlers. The Covert Tank flares more, and hits harder than Traditional Urethane. Normally when I use my Burgundy Tank I feel I don’t have much room for error. The Covert Tank allows miss area to the right with recovery and carries extremely well. I have used the Covert Tank on a good variety of patterns, and the ball motion is very nice. When I use traditional Urethane, I feel I need to move right as oil carries down. With the Covert Tank I can move left and create more area; this is most likely due to how the Covert Tank absorbs oil slow enough to maintain a better lane pattern. The Covert Tank is stronger than my Thrill but is weaker than my Venom Shock. To me, it rolls closer to Reactive than true Urethane. The Covert Tank reads the front part of the lane but still has a nice, controlled move off the dry. I have let my high rev and no thumb bowlers test the Covert Tank out and think it will be a great addition to their arsenal. The ball is very predictable and there is no over / under reaction. The Covert Tank goes through the pins with a strong, continuous motion. For someone like me who has limited use for the traditional Urethanes, I can see myself using this ball a lot, especially on house conditions. This ball should allow you to stay in the pocket as the lanes transition with very little adjustment.
Summary:
The Covert Tank has a Predictable and forgiving motion.
The hit and carry was better than expected.
This is a “Urethane” ball for those who struggle with Urethane.
I feel this new cover technology has great potential.
The Covert Tank should be a great addition to a tournament arsenal.

06/10/2019Product Covert TankBy Randy WeissFrom Columbia, SCAbout Me Staff MemberTruly Unique! Something new and Amazing
What a Special new piece from the great minds of Motiv. We have never seen anything quite like this before. As a Staffer and an avid tournament bowler, I was not sure what to think when we were first told about these. This concept sounded amazing, almost too good to be true, but inside I wondered could the hype really be true? Could it really give the avg rev bowler the same advantage that urethane gives the high rev dominant player? I just had to find out for myself (Captain average (or even below avg these days) Rev Rate here). Well, OH MY WORD, does this ball do everything we were promised and then some. I have been using them almost exclusively for the past 3 weeks in practice on multiple patterns to really understand this new cover material and what it is best suited at doing. I have been in a state of complete wonderment and amazement about what this ball is capable of. On burned league patterns, I can hook this ball from left of 3rd arrow to 5. On Wolf I can stay squared up from 8 to 4 for a very long extended period with out moving my feet. (Best reaction I've ever had on Wolf). Just last weekend we had a local tournament on 2018 USBC Team Championships Pattern (38ft and lots of hook). I led the tournament before losing the title match but most importantly I felt like I was bowling my own tournament. What I mean by that is that whatever anyone else in the building was doing with either dull reactives or urethane it did not matter or affect where I was playing. Do yourself a favor and put this Ball in your arsenal. You can thank me later!
